A Stop Lighting up Cancer Sticks Essays

A Stop Lighting up Cancer Sticks Essays A Stop Lighting up Cancer Sticks Paper A Stop Lighting up Cancer Sticks Paper Cancer, emphysema, asthma†¦ death. What are all of those tragic health conditions associated with? No, not merely old age or even sucking on the exhaust pipe of a Buick, though the latter’s not too far from the truth. The horrific reality is that everyday, everywhere in this country, people are lighting up cancer sticks. Cigarettes, as they are more generally called, are poisoning the nation with every wheeze-filled puff that anyone draws in and exhales. Smoking cigarettes is one of this nation’s worst evils, yet is more acceptable than many less hazardous substances that are considered illegal. Cigarettes should be banned entirely from the United States because they kill not only the populace that smokes them, but innocent bystanders as well, are more addictive than marijuana or painkillers, and are produced and distributed by an industry that gains profit from millions of their customer’s deaths. Second-hand smoke warnings swarm all aspects of the media in today’s society, and with good reason. Anyone that believes they cannot be affected by smokers’ habits is tragically mistaken. So maybe a guy standing at a crosswalk doesn’t mind the fact that he’s poisoning himself, but the mother waiting behind him walking her eight-year-old son to school certainly does. They both are inhaling the toxins spewing from that Marlboro 100, and probably don’t like it. Okay smoker, it’s alright to kill yourself, but not others. Also, anyone with asthma or emphysema can have their illnesses worsened; second-hand smoke is even more perilous to them. People on the street or in the same room may be able to walk away from the smoky clouds, but what about those that can’t? Kids, infants, and even unborn children may be getting sick just from second-hand smoke in the next room, causing innumerable health risks. In fact, â€Å"After the first month of life, infants of parents who smoke have higher mortality rates through the first year of life, mostly because of an increased risk for sudden infant death syndrome and respiratory conditions like bronchiolitis† (Gidding 750). Yet, each smoker is unaware that a small part of their habit damaged the lungs of the girl that now needs constant medical supervision or the boy that looks through the fence at the kids playing baseball, but can’t join in because he’d suffer an asthma attack. If they had just put out their light†¦ But it doesn’t bother a smoker†¦ if the people exiting an airport cough when they walk out of the terminals through the â€Å"smoking areas,† what are a few kids? The second-hand smoke that kills thousands of people every year must be eliminated, and can be if the first-hand smoke is banned. Among the hundred or so chemicals tucked away inside a cancer stick is a pesky little addictive substance called nicotine. So along with urea, carbon monoxide, and methane, those who smoke get a substance more addictive than caffeine, defined by the New American Webster Handy College dictionary as, â€Å" a poisonous, colorless, oily liquid. † Sounds great, huh? Most smokers might try not to smoke if it weren’t for the fact that they are addicted to their cigs. Surprisingly, the tobacco companies know that seventy percent of smokers want to quit but can’t (Reasons). Addiction is regarded as bad in America. We spend millions of tax dollars each year to break the addictions of junkies, or to house them in our prisons if their drugs are illegal. Heroine, cocaine, and marijuana are outlawed because they kill people, and lead to more crime based on an addict’s chemical dependency. What is to stop a nicotine addict from stealing money to buy a pack when he says he, â€Å"Needs a cigarette,† but doesn’t have the cash? Maybe jail time can act as a deterrent. Addictions, especially those that are life threatening, have been the targets of countless programs to help eliminate them because our nation considers them to be appalling. An addiction to nicotine is as serious as any other drug addiction and should be dealt with accordingly, by outlawing its distribution, and the cigarettes that are its envelope to the citizen of this country. Big business is part of America and tobacco companies are some of the biggest businesses, but they make their money from the suffering of others. When anybody buys a pack of cigarettes, they are supporting a series of corporations that gain profits from dealing death to the people of America. Here’s how it works: tobacco companies lose thousands of customers each year†¦ because they die. So every day they need about 3,000 new smokers, and they look to the kids (3,000). Have those capitalists realized that it’s morally unjust to market lethal, addictive substances to kids? Yes, but as long as the money keeps rolling in, the lives of their customers don’t matter. Buying a pack of cigarettes is simply feeding the monster that is the tobacco industry. Before the lungs of a smoker are affected, their wallet is: approximately $4. 00 for a pack of twenty. Let’s do the math on that one! Twenty cents per cancer stick, a pack each day†¦ Smoking costs $1, 460 per year, but don’t worry because a bonus gift comes with that; it’s called lung cancer, or a few lucky individuals can spend almost fifteen hundred bucks a year for asthma. Tobacco companies profit from death and poor health. Being paid for thousands of murder each year doesn’t seem highly regarded or even decent, so the sale of cigarettes should be illegal. Okay, this is America, the land of the free; smokers have the freedom to smoke. It has been known unofficially as the â€Å"right to smoke† in arguments over this matter of banning cigarettes. Right to smoke? What about the right to breathe clean air? In public places, more people don’t smoke than those who do, and since there seems to be a basis on laws and rights when it comes to this issue, and this is a democracy†¦ TAA-DAA the non-smokers would win this one. God bless the rights in America! At home, in private, it’s okay to smoke though, some would think. A smoker should still have that right, right? Well, again going to the government of America and its laws, suicide is illegal. That includes poisoning; ingesting chemicals that kill the human body slowly, which seems like suicide and in a court of law, could be confirmed. When it comes to a â€Å"right to smoke,† it’s great to live in such democratic society where the people make the laws; maybe a ban on cigarettes should be next on the lists. Tobacco companies make billions of dollars and keep thousands of people employed, but to do that they distribute death cartons. They make donations to campaigns, schools, and even health care facilities. Perhaps they believe that their donations will make people blind to the fact that their product, â€Å"kills more people than AIDS, murder, suicide, fires, alcohol, and all other illegal drugs combined† (Perspectives). How could our economy survive without them? Hello! The United States of America is one of the richest and most powerful countries in the world. The national debt is way over the billion-dollar marker, so does another billion matter? U. S. allies would donate funds to stimulate the economy. Another Great Depression is not an option, and wouldn’t happen, especially since the U. S. is known for its thriving economy. As far as finding new jobs for all the tobacco company employees, well maybe some openings are available as gravediggers and morticians; they could see the error of their ways more clearly by looking at a man that died of lung cancer with a pack of Camels in his pocket. The economy of the U. S. is structured firmly so that the people back it with their money. If nothing else, $1,460 a year could be spent on something else, like shopping sprees, to help the economy for those that are worried about another stock market downfall. This nation can survive without cigarettes, and so could thousands of its citizens. Who suffers from the effects of cigarettes? Answer: the smoker, because according to Hospital Practice, smokers are admitted to hospitals twice as often as nonsmokers (Hospital 8), and anyone standing around them, including unborn children. Who benefits from smoking cigarettes? â€Å"Big Tobacco,† the heartless corporate giants that profit from death. Second-hand smoke kills, addiction runs rampant and needs to be stopped, and the tobacco companies are laughing at the suffering of consumers all the way to the bank. Such an illegitimate situation can be easily avoided. Ban the cancer sticks; ban the self-poisoning. Eliminate cigarettes†¦ eliminate the problem. These Tips Will Help in Writing Synthesis Essays

These Tips Will Help in Writing Synthesis Essays Writing An Interesting Synthesis Essay Writing a desirable synthesis essay might sound tough, but after this guided method to writing one, your perception will totally change. To understand it, you should define what synthesis is. To synthesize means to gather several elements and create something new. You must have heard about the relationship between thesis, antithesis, and synthesis by now, if not then it okay. This means that for every point raised, there is a counterpoint. There is a combination of both results in the synthesis of a new point, where both aspects are reconfigured together to give out a new suggestion. A synthesis essay entails assimilation of different elements that agree or contradict to give out a single perspective when synchrony is applied. Synthesis Essay Definition Coming up with a synthesis essay is easy. You are expected to research a particular subject matter, and come up with sources that support your argument. The challenge arises in the conversion of the information obtained into your self-made point of view. For instance, you are given ten sources that have conflicting, or varying perceptions about the great depression. You are required to utilize only several sources (if not all) to synthesize your self-written synthesis essay. Your written papers should have a thesis which clearly puts across the point you are trying to make, based on the information collected from the chosen topics. Avoid summarizing the points, but instead, focus on making a point out of them. This is because most of the readers are aware of the contents of the sources and there is no need for repetition. Instead, use the sources as support to arguments that you intend to highlight. Ways of Writing a Captivating Synthesis Essay The following example will help you in understanding the process of coming up this a synthesis essay. Let’s say you are given ten sources, each talking about Superman. Out of the ten, four sources are essays on Christian Bale’s Batman, Adam West’s Batman, Ben Affleck’s Batman, and Michael Keaton’s Batman respectively. Four other articles show a photo of each actor while in their character, Batman. The other two are statistical data in graphs and charts, where one shows the box office returns of the four films with each having Batman as the star, while the other shows the ratings each got according to rotten tomatoes. Additionally, you are given the following prompt: Given that you have an executive position in a major film studio that is mandated to bring back the Batman franchise, synthesize using the sources provided, an essay describing how the studio should handle the Batman character in this latest comeback move. To start off, you should go through the information on each source and let the information sink in and get familiar with it. While at it, refer to the prompt given and make conclusions based on it. What are the reasons the studio should undertake a particular direction to handle Batmans character successfully? By answering such a question, you already have formulated your thesis. After completing your thesis, you are required to construct your outline. It is common knowledge that it should have an introduction and a conclusion. In between these two elements are the main points that support your argument, stated in the introduction under thesis, and re-stated again in conclusion. Support each point put across with sources provided. Synthesis Essay Outline In relation to the superman topic, I will highlight how best you should structure and organize your work to come up with a first-class synthesis essay Introduction The character of Batman has evolved in different forms over the years Each point of evolution has represented a theme popular during that time Adam Wests Batman character represented the campy fun of the 1960s Keaton’s Batman character represented the contrasting world perception of the 1990s Bale’s Batman character represented the realism demand for the 21st-century craving for a new true hero Afflecks Batman character represented the growing popularity of comic books in diverse genres, merges with filmmaking, but still utilizing the grim realism displayed by Bales Batman character. Bringing the character back to life should involve consideration of the target audience, daily realities, and the things the audience want to see in the film. The new Batman character should be both fun and evil, with a blend of intelligence, complexity, and torment. Finding the Right Movie Attitude in First Body Paragraph Each of the different Batman movie appearances has brought about a new phenomenon Evolving the character should apply originality, but still, stick to the true nature of the characters aspects that have not been introduced yet. Wests Batman character is a detective, thus showing originality in the introduction of a new Batman character wearing a cape and embarking on a vigilante crusade. Enjoy the Moments in Second Body Paragraph All appearances of Batman have excited viewers According to the review conducted by rotten tomatoes, the best appearances are based on the fun projected in character for the movie A new evolved Batman character is definitely exciting and enjoyable Be Realistic in Third Body Paragraph Wests Batman character is a tone for fun in watching the movie Keaton’s Batman character displayed a gothic, nightmare-like theme Bale and Affleck had a motive to highlight heroism, realism, and style in the character Ratings of the box office display the superiority in sales and audience point of view making them the biggest winners Evolving of the character adds fun to the content and movie altogether Conclusion Batman has a different character description on screen With the ranging opinions describing the best Batman character, factual evidence signifies the fun in evolving the character, and it should be real and focus on bringing to light a new aspect of the character that has not been developed on screen Topics to Consider for a Synthesis Essay Synthesis essay topics are aligned with reals include: Your thoughts about global warming The effort that needs to be taken to endorse economic development for sustenance Ways to combat terrorism and reduce a back and forth situation over the years What’s your opinion concerning genetically modified foods? Over dependency on digital technology in this evolving generation Normally, the topic or prompt is availed, together with the sources that need to be used. Creating the subject matter from this is therefore easy. However, deep emphasis and focus should be relayed to developing a new thesis that no sources provided has it in their literature, consider reading through your sources and prompt several times, grasp the concept and develop a thesis addressing the provided prompt, and relates to the sources previously provided. A Guide Sample of a Synthesis Essay You are provided with two synthesis essay examples. Each will describe different techniques of approach in handling this type of essay. The first essay utilizes the outline and sources given to come up with the required essay. For the second essay, assume that it is based on three diverse sources: an article by Jones, Book authored by Garrard, and presentation done by Schultz. Assume that each source discusses an aspect related to Hamlets character. In the end, you will realize that the essay synthesizes the perspectives of the three sources into an argument. Batman: The Evolution The character of Batman has evolved over the years, with each manifestation representing a popular element at the time of its conception. Adam Wests Batman character represented the campy fun of the 1960s. Keatons Batman character represented the world perception of the 1990s. Bales Batman character symbolized the realism demand for the 21st-century craving for a new true hero. Afflecks Batman character signified the growing popularity of comic books in diverse genres merges with filmmaking while still utilizing the grim certainties displayed by Bales Batman character. In an effort to revolutionize Batmans character, our studio should take into consideration the current theme endorsed and what the audiences really want. The new Batman character should be both fun and evil, with a blend of intelligence, complexity, and torment. The evidence also displays that each new Batman character represents something different from what was portrayed before. This paper will deliberate how the new Batman character should be depicted on screen, in relevance to the provided sources. Finding the right movie attitude sets the pace required to evolve the Batman character. Each of the different Batman movie appearances has brought about a new spectacle. Evolving the character should apply originality, but still, stick to the true nature of the characters aspects that have not been introduced yet. An essay on Wests Batman shows that the character is a detective, thus showing originality in the introduction of a new Batman character wearing a cape and embarking on a vigilante crusade. Therefore, by bringing about a new character aspect as Batman being a detective will make the audience find the presentation as fascinating and fun to watch. You should, however, keep in mind that the audience prefers fun over-seriousness in cinema as per review by rotten tomatoes. This is the reason why many critics discredit Afflecks Batman character, which they thought that it was too grey and pompous. Our evolved version should endorse fun, but still, avoid the campy aspect of Wests Batman. Keatons Batman character brought equilibrium between comedy and tragedy; thus the character chosen to represent our franchise should have a similar charm about him. This will ensure that the audience receives both thrill and fun as they watch our movie. It is also important to acknowledge that Bales Batman franchise was the most successful up to date. It was the first movie to bring about realism to the character. This can be seen by the response the audience gave out, that illustrated the need for a real hero who will solve their problems and needs in a time where both elements were thriving. While Wests Batman set the tone for fun, and Keatons character depicted a nightmare-like gothic experience, the Batman character brought to display by Bale (and to some extent, Afflecks Batman) signified heroism, realism, and style within the character. Therefore, it is suggested that there is a need to present a realistic Batman character to the audience. In conclusion, Batman has been represented in various forms on the screen. Even though there is a lot of speculation regarding which character is the best, evidence shows that an evolution of the character should be fun, have a realist attitude and focus on aspects of the character that have not been fully developed on screen. All the provided reasons should help our studio to define a Batman character who is a detective but still fun and realistic altogether. This will make the movie a hit and give it promising box office ratings. The mental state of Hamlet: Mad or Just a Hoax? So many suggestions come through when discussing the mental state of Hamlet character in a Shakespeare written book. However, several scenes in the play illustrate that the Hamlet character is just pretending which if he is, he exaggerates it too much (he slays Polonius in a fit of frenzy and later on says that he does not know what he has done). This paper will present arguments on the character of Hamlet, where he does begin by pretending to be crazy to deceive these people who were spying on him. Additionally, as the play progresses, he ultimately loses his mind for a short period and recovers it in the final act. As highlighted by Jones, Hamlet is determined to pretend to be mad so as to dupe his father-in-law. He only divulges to people close to him, and his trick does work. Those that were out of his inner circle could not understand Hamlets actions thus could not make a significant act on him.   Hamlet also displays a reasonable character, proved by the long soliloquies stating that he was an active mind at work which shows no sign of insanity. Garrard illustrated that the act by Hamlet to slay Polonius by lugging his guts away, he depicted a high level of crazy.   His reason is not deceptive, and his soliloquies are not present. Both elements have been replaced by emotional outbursts directed to his mother, suggesting that the prince was on the brink of losing his mind. In the last scenes of the play, he again displays his soliloquies and reaffirms his rationality, as indicated by Schultz. This can be seen when he returned to Denmark after escaping the ship that was leading him to his demise. He then seeks forgiveness from those he had wronged and those he intended to. However, he still ends up hurting them with his actions founded on pure vengeance promoted by a perceived act of justice, rather than madness. With a review of Hamlets character, it is safe to imply that he is sane, then becomes crazy, and reverts back to being sane again, which can be summed up as temporary insanity. This implication gives room for a good argument to be based on both sides and fuses all points into a new sense of direction. This allows the audience to depict Hamlets character as a voyage from reason to madness and back to reason again. Using this aspect to examine Hamlet helps us see hid downfalls and comebacks. In conclusion, you cannot perceive Hamlet and totally sane or insane. His character can be best perceived as a changing factor as the play progresses. From the threatening but lucid man as the start of the play, he develops into a hysterical, infuriated young man in the middle, and reverts back to his normal self as a reasonable person at the end. Summing up A synthesis essay is not hard to write. You just need to find reliable sources or use those given to you, utilize the main points in each, and form a link to bring out a new perspective which synthesizes various points of view to come up with a new argument. The argument created should be supported by the provided sources. The conclusion you come up with should depict how it has undergone a scientific thought process, thus finally completing a concrete synthesis. Following all the required steps and utilizing the provided sources are key to the creation of a well-written synthesis essay.

Principle of Management Leadership Paper Research

Principle of Management Leadership - Research Paper Example The Resource Person chosen as a subject for discussion in this paper is the Managing Director of CPI Outsourcing. He is one of the pioneers of the company who built it from a small start-up company to a leading outsource company. II. Job and Leadership Style The job of the Managing Director entails the managing of the company in its daily operation. In a way, he acts like a General Manager because he sees to it that all departments functions according to the desired performance desired by the company. He also ensures that under no circumstance, should the company be late in its service delivery to its client. He also ensures that their accuracy is always maintained because this is what gives the company a competitive edge for their client to source their attendance monitoring and payroll. With regard to leadership style, the Resource Speaker strives to become a transformational leader; a leader that inspires people in the organization to be at their best and to become leaders themsel ves (Tichy & Devanna, 1990). According to him, while the company has very strict processes and metrices that need to be followed, doing the job itself for the sake of complying to these processes and metrices will not suffice for the over-all growth and competitiveness of the company. According to him, people in the organization should inherently be doing their best. Quality should not just be enforced by processes and metrices the but by the culture of an organization. Because from there, quality, timeliness and competitiveness will just naturally follow. Such, he stresses, how important it is to inspire people. He said that â€Å"I am more of the inspiring leader than that of a punitive one.† III. Exercising Power in the Organization Power, or the ability to get something done through other people the way you wanted them is a capability inherent in leadership (Schermerhorn et al, 2004). According to the Resource Person, power should be prudently exercised within an organiza tion. It should be used to achieve the over-all objective of an organization and whenever possible, it should be used to better the welfare of employees. He said that his personal belief about power is that it should be used to empower people in an organization. Because by having a shared sense of power to change things, the organization in general will have a better capacity not only to hurdle challenges but to better itself that could contribute to its long-term growth. IV. Personal Traits and Behaviors According to the Resource Person, as a leader in an organization where people looks up to him for direction and guidance, such it is imperative that he should be mindful of his demeanor and behavior that it should not undermine his ascendancy as a leader. He stressed that this is important because â€Å"if you lose your credibility to the point that people will not believe nor follow you, then that’s it, you’re already done as a leader. If you stay long enough, you w ill not only undermine yourself but the organization as well.† He said that to be able to inspire people to be at their best, it is important that his own traits and behaviors will also be inspiring. He said that though he has certain flaws, but he always strive to be better. According to him, leadership is not just about being high in the organization’

Marital Paradigm Essay Example for Free

Marital Paradigm Essay I grew up in a joint family in India, which had 3 married couple and their kids. Marital relationships that I saw in my family were not great but not bad either. All the men used to work in the family business and the women used to take care of the children and the house. Many times my parents used to fight and my dad used to scream at my mom, but my mom never had the guts to say anything to him. I always saw that my mom was scared of him and I used to question myself why doesn’t she reply back. And being a girl myself I used to think that probably girls cant say anything when theirs husband are screaming at them. I used to talk to my mom and tell her why cant she reply back, but I never really got an answer. I always saw my mom as the weaker one in the relationship. On the other hand we had a family friend and both husband wife used to work as college professors. In their house the husband never screamed at the wife, I am sure they had conflicts but you could totally see the respect that he gave to his wife. When I grew a little bit older my mom started telling me how she felt. That was when she told me that she was a housewife and my dad was the one who earned in the family and thus he could talk like that to my mom. My dad always dominated her as he is the man of the family and is the one responsible for all the decisions of the family. And this was not only my parents I 4saw this trend throughout my family with the other two couples as well. Certain assumptions that I saw in the relationships were that even if it was my dad’s fault, my mom always had to be the first one to apologize. Also since my mom is eight years younger than my dad I saw that my dad didn’t really understand her and took her for granted at times. Bring the older one he tried to impose certain things on her. I also saw that if I tried to calm down my dad he didn’t like it as I was a child and I should not be involved in their matters. This training has had a lot of impact on my relationships. As I always saw my mom being dominated by my dad, I didn’t want that to happen with me. When I grew up I had certain things very clear in my mind. I wanted to be educated enough so that I can earn myself and have a good job, so I never dependent on my husband for anything. For that reason I came to USA and decided to study here. In my past relationships, I made it very clear to my artners that my career is more important than anything in my life and I wouldn’t leave it for anyone. I was also very clear about anyone screaming at me. Since I saw my mom always being screamed at and I always hated it. Also I have certain things straight for my future. I want my husband to understand that I will not stop working and be a housewife, so that later I have to dependent on him. I want him to respect my decisions and me. Many times I have seen that the women of the house are not asked to contribute in family matters, and I think that is not right at all. So I want to have a relationship where we both contribute in the family matters and come to a conclusion together. I am not yet married but I think the things I have in mind for my marital relationship are very clear. According to the book women still do two-third of the household work. I think if women can earn like men do, then men should work the same like women. I think my idea of marriage is based on a simple rule, which is to give the amount of resect you get. And I think it is pretty healthy because if two people cannot respect each other for what they are then they cannot be together for long. Moreover I have been taught marriage is not only about two people, but it is about two families that get together. And I expect my husband to respect and get along with my family as being the only child I think my parents are my responsibility and will always be. Thus whoever marries me has to understand the importance of my parents in my life, and on the other hand I want to be comfortable with his family too. I also feel that at times girls tend to be too clingy with their partners, and I think that is one reason why guys get irritated. Therefore I would like to give space to my husband when he needs and expect the same from him. Some people might think that this is being stupid but I know I wouldn’t like if my husband gets over protective about me, and the same way I don’t want to be over protective about him. I know it’s not easy to be with a person like me who is over ambitious. And at times it can be a problem for guys to see the girl so much into her work, and for me my career has always been more important than anything. I think this can be a problem when I get married, because at times it has been a problem for my boyfriends to understand my passion about my work. This is something I want to work on as most of the times guys don’t understand this. Also I like the idea of peer marriage as in a marriage where both people respect each other equally and understand each other’s likes and dislikes it becomes easier to be together. According to the book faithfulness is the number one reason for marital success. And I totally agree with this, even if the physical relationship between two people is not that good, if they both are faithful to each other nothing can separate them. My parents have not only taught me to be faithful but I also have seen this in their relationship. Even though my father was dominating my mother, they are still together. This is because no one of them was unfaithful to the other. Also I think from a few years the fights between my parents reduced I think this happened because they saw that I am a grown up now and all this might affect my thoughts about marriage. Children are a big reason why two people stay together even if they don’t want to. But I think that’s not right. I don’t want my husband to be with me just because of our children, because that’s doing a favor to our relationship. I would like us to be together because we make each other happy not because of a third reason. I am brought up in a culture where non-marital sex is not accepted. And these values are embedded inside me. I know now a days girls have sex when they are 14 years of age, but I am 21 years old and I am still a virgin. Being in USA and telling your boyfriend that you wont have sex with him because of your culture is not easy. Many times people judge my beliefs but that has not affected me at all. I want my husband to respect my beliefs and understand where I am coming from. Because for me a relationship is not only about getting physical, there is a lot more to it, and what I have heard and seen around me is that guys only want to get physical. I know according to the book sex is the second reason why marriages work. But for me it is not. I am not against sex at all, but I don’t want my marriage to be dependent on it. Book talks about homogamous marriage, which is a type of marriage in which spouses share their race, ethnicity, age, or social class. Basically a marriage where the two people have something in common. Obviously my parents want me to get married to a guy from the same caste and I agree with them. Because I think if the guy is familiar with my religion, my caste, and my society there is better change of understanding between both of us. In a nutshell I want a marriage where we both can share our happiness, and problems with each other without any problem. A relationship where I get the same respect that I give to the other person.

Primary Pulmonary Hypertension :: essays research papers fc

Primary Pulmonary Hypertension INTRODUCTION A.Each year in the US there are about 300 new cases of PPH diagnosed each year. B.My purpose today is to inform you on the disease PPH C.This topic concerns you because it is a deadly disease that is on the rise. D.Today I will discuss.... 1.What the disease is 2.Causes of PPH 3.Symptoms of PPH 4.Diagnosis 5.Course and Treatment PPH-What is it? Primary(unexplained) pulmonary hypertension (abnormally high blood pressure) is an extremely rare lung disorder. Pulmonary hypertension occurs when there are changes in small blood vessels in the lungs resulting in an increased resistance to move enough blood through the lungs. The resistance places a strain on the right ventricle which must work harder to pump enough blood. If untreated,or if the conditions are generally bad enough, the right side of the heart may fail resulting in death. PPH-What are the causes? There is no definite cause of PPH,but there are possibilities. 1.PPH may be the result of another infection such as heart disease, lung disease,or HIV. 2.PPH may be genetic. A specific chromosome which runs in families is linked to PPH although the type of defect is yet unknown. 3.Familial Inheritance 4.Diet Drugs-By far this is the most known cause. Fen-Phen and Dexfenfluramine,2 diet drugs have been studied and are linked to numbers of cases of pph. These drugs can cause PPH in as little as 23 days the risk increases with the amount of time it is used. 5.Serotonin-Although this is not proved,it is believed that the above diet drugs increase the release of serotonin which is often found in patients transplanted lungs with PPH. It is very possible that this is a cause What are the symptoms of PPH? In the early stages of PPh there are no symptoms. Usually a person will go to the doctor for another disease and will find that it can’t be cured. After numerous tests,PPH is found to be the primary cause. 1.frequent tiredness or tiring easily as if you are out of shape. 2.Difficulty breathing, dizziness, fainting 3.Swelling in ankles/legs,bluish lips and skin 4.chest pain 5.trouble getting air 6.Palpitations-may be so severe that it is compared to a heart attack. How is PPH diagnosed? 1.Electrocardiogram-indicates whether heart is under increased stress 2.PPH is rarely picked up in a routine medical exam. It is usually confused with other heart/lung diseases. 3.Echocardiogram-The doctor uses sound waves to map a structure of the heart and see if the right side is larger. 4.Pulmonary Function Tests-measures lung volume. 5.Right-heart Cardiac Catheterization-A catheter(tube)is placed in the patient’s arm,let,neck...to measure the blood pressure of the right side of the heart. what is the course and Treatment of PPH? PPH starts when a layer of cells in the lungs are damaged.

Be human or victorias secret

Victorians Secret is a famous company of lingerie and beauty products, which was founded in 1977 by Roy Raymond n Ohio, United States. The company's slogan is the sale Of beauty, being sexy, fabulous and perfect. Since 1995, in the last weeks of November the company Victorians Secret presents the Victorians Secret Fashion Show in which it presents the new collections for the year. Famous singers will attend this show as well as the supermodels of the company, who are called Angels. Victorians Secret Angels are selected supermodels for the company's campaigns. All angels are extremely beautiful and fit a mannequin size 36. In November 2014, in GLAMOUR magazine showed that Victorians Secret munched the newest bra campaign â€Å"Body by Victoria Secret† the advertising picture has 10 of the most beautiful Angels models, including models with blonde, brunette and black hair. All Angels are using the new collection of lingerie with possession, confidence and sexy poses. The slogan i n the picture is the â€Å"Perfect Body. Perfect Fit. Perfect Comfort. Perfectly SOFT. † In addiction at the end has â€Å"Explore the Collection† followed with the names of the new ten types of bras.GLAMOUR is a women's magazine focusing on fashion, beauty, relationship, sex, lifestyle and services. The magazine targets women teen the ages of 18 and 40, both single and married. These women may be at any stage of their lives, such as going to college, working in jobs full time or part time, caring for a family. Health and fitness, in search of beauty and well-being are also involved. The target audience is women who are focused itself, and on the world, blobs and internet. These tend to speak of the hottest issues and show all the new trends emerging for the female consumer. The primary ads are new patterns and fashions that come soon. The Perfect Body is a new line of bra Victorians Secret afford to its customers in a huge variety: Rasa and push-up, perfect shape, new perfect comfort deem push up, and others. The variety that most consumers appreciate is the opportunity to choose the best type of bras that fit them. Another purpose of this campaign is that with new bras Victorians Secret you get â€Å"The Perfect Body', Perfect Fit, perfect Comfort and Perfectly Soft. † In reality does everything come together with just a bra?How not to buy? The advertisement for this seems a little be promising with all this perfection in just a bra, we can see clearly the marketing game in the advertisement. The word â€Å"perfect† is ones of racketing games that misleads consumers, and make them purchase the product in search of the perfect. Because consumers are always seeking the best and perfect, and this propaganda ends up attracting them. For example, this new collection of the bra names is the â€Å"PERFECT SHAPE†; can you have the perfect shape with this new bra?Does â€Å"perfect† by Victorians Secret is perfect? It is one o f the facts that everyone would have to examine in advertisements. Another word used in advertising is â€Å"NEW. † Why does everyone want what is new? Just because it is new, is it means better? We now that many times what is new is not better than old, but we live in a consumer's world. We just want what is new, just to keep with the developments and commercial growth. Another type of marketing used to attract consumers are the BEA dutiful models that are confirming the proposal of the campaign. All of them are posing and showing confidence, resourcefulness, and are still being sexy and powerful with panties and bras. What looks interesting in the first time, but which captures the majority of consumers. Who does not Want to feel confident and powerful using only panties and bra? I think that everyone wants to feel good wearing only panties and bras because it is virtually impossible. That is what the companies like Victorians Secret presents and convinces consumers, using i n advertising to reach consumers and have succeed in their new collections.Victorians Secret does not just sell lingerie and beauty products it sells sensuality set, power and the female's fabulous side. In the new campaign â€Å"Body by Victorians Secrets†, 10 angels are positioned as a front line ready for battle, as an army battalion ready to fight. However, battle in this direction is different; he battle is against the consumer. They are showing that this is the body of Victorians Secretes, perfect and ready. When you look yourself and see the new collection and the Angels, you already feel lost and out Of context, and see the need for the new product. This is how propaganda â€Å"Body by Victorians Secret† appeal to the emotional side of marketing, showing that with the new products you can purchase the â€Å"Perfect Body. † Another way that advertising eludes the side emotionally are the features that the models are shown. The Angels are pictured are sexy, confident, uninhibited and happy. Something that appeals to the popular side, people living standards indicated by the media, and to see an advertisement like this in GLAMOUR magazine very consumers believe this is the key to all problems. Furthermore, these advertisements often end up backfiring on a population.Advertisements as this â€Å"The Perfect Body† causes many consumers to rebel by not fit the pattern that company shows. Victorians Secret shows a variety of ethnicity in the photo templates, but has not done the same in the body shapes. This makes many consumers give up the product and even the company. The emotional did ‘Body by Victorians Secret† can take depends on the consumer, and the success of this new collection can be committed only for fit in Angels' size by Victorians Secret. Victorians Secret Angels use their campaigns to attract attention and consumers. The Angels of Victorians Secret are the top models in the fashion world, as Giggles Bunche d, the Brazilian model that is one of the top on the fashion world and well paid, was an Angel. The benefit and aim to have them as Angels is very marketing. Because having the best models in the world fashion wearing Victorians Secrets products, not only attracts nonusers, but also magazines, reports and all media. It is a fact that some consumers will only purchase the products Victorians Secret, because they are the top models in the fashion world. In addition, many news companies will only show advertisements for having the hottest Angels. Victorians Secret is a company that sells dreams and achievements, where the products promise to transform the buyer on being sexy, fabulous, charming and perfect. One of the companies is liable to generalize, by imposing a standard of beauty. The advertisement â€Å"Body by Victorians Secret† with the slogan â€Å"The Perfect Body† s one of the advertisements that would never come through the media. I wonder what the company Vict orians Secret wins to continue with advertisements and campaigns that link to a â€Å"perfect model†.Of course it has its consumers â€Å"perfect model†, which still make a profit. In a developing world in which we live, we must take action against companies imply that standard, a standard that does not involve half the world's population. We all should stop dreaming about the promises that Victorians Secrets presents. Each has its life; each has its shape, size, color, and so on. Everything is different; we deed to have something perfect to follow? Who said that the perfect is The Perfect by Victorians Secret?

Popular Uses for Footnotes, Easier Footnotes with Software

Popular Uses for Footnotes, Easier Footnotes with Software You might be wondering if footnotes have become obsolete by now. Nothing could be further from the truth. While it is true that many publications favor the use of endnotes or APA style citation, footnotes still have their established realms of use. Popular Uses for Footnotes One popular use for footnotes is as a source of supplemental information. If you mention in a paper that one neighborhood lives in poverty, you might mention the exact statistic within a footnote. The position of the footnote is helpful in this instance, as the reader has to only glance down to augment their current information. Another popular use of footnotes is quotation. Perhaps you have quoted one source in the document, and wish to provide an exact or expounded quote or reference below. Footnotes provide the perfect instance for integrated information and quotation whenever you need them. Easier Footnotes with Software You might recall older word processing software that made inserting these notes a nightmare. Even in modern word processing programs, footnotes can become tedious and tiresome. However, with modern Chicago Style software, you can insert footnotes with the touch of a button, making the entire process streamlined.

Biography of Antonio Maceo, Hero of Cuban Independence

Biography of Antonio Maceo, Hero of Cuban Independence Antonio Maceo (June 14, 1845-December 7, 1896) was a Cuban general considered to be one of the greatest heroes of the nations 30-year struggle for independence from Spain. He was given the nickname The Bronze Titan in reference to his skin color and heroics on the battlefield. Fast Facts: Antonio Maceo Full Name: Josà © Antonio de la Caridad Maceo GrajalesKnown For: Cuban independence heroAlso Known As: The Bronze Titan (nickname given by Cubans), The Greater Lion (nickname given by Spanish forces)Born: June 14, 1845 in Majaguabo, Cuba Died: December 7, 1896 in Punta Brava, CubaParents: Marcos Maceo and Mariana Grajales y Cuello  Spouse: Marà a Magdalena Cabrales y FernndezChildren: Marà a de la Caridad MaceoKey Accomplishments:  Led Cuban independence fighters in their 30-year struggle against Spain.Famous Quote: No whites nor blacks, but only Cubans. Early life Of Afro-Cuban ancestry, Maceo was the first of nine children of Venezuelan-born Marcos Maceo and Cuban-born Mariana Grajales. Marcos Maceo owned several farms in the rural town of Majaguabo, in the eastern province of Santiago de Cuba. Maceo became interested in politics early in life, joining a Masonic Lodge in the city of Santiago in 1864, which was a hotbed of insurrectionist sentiment against Spain. At the time, Cuba was one of the few colonies Spain still controlled, as most of Latin America had gained its independence in the 1820s under the leadership of liberators like Simà ³n Bolà var. Antonio Maceo Grajales portrait from Cuban money.   johan10 / Getty Images The Ten Years War (1868-1878) Cubas first attempt to gain independence was the Ten Years War, which was kicked off by the Grito de Yara (Cry of Yara, or call for insurrection) issued by eastern Cuban plantation owner Carlos Manuel de Cà ©spedes, who freed his slaves and incorporated them into his rebellion. Maceo, his father Marcos, and several of his brothers quickly joined the mambises (as the rebel army was called) with the full support of mother Mariana, known as the mother of the nation because of her unwavering dedication to Cuban independence. Marcos was killed in battle in 1869, and Maceo was wounded. However, he had already risen quickly in the ranks because of his skill and leadership on the battlefield. The rebels were ill-equipped to take on the Spanish army, so they avoided large battles and focused on guerilla tactics and sabotage, such as cutting telegraph lines, destroying sugar mills, and attempting to hinder commercial activity on the island. Maceo proved himself to be a brilliant guerilla tactician. According to historian Philip Foner, he depended upon surprise, swiftness, and the confusion and terror that his troops aroused as they fell suddenly on their enemy: their gleaming machete blades brandished on high and fierce war whoops piercing the air. Maceos battalions always freed the slaves when they captured sugar mills, encouraging them to join the rebel army by emphasizing that abolition was a major goal of the independence struggle. However, Cà ©spedes believed in gradual emancipation, contingent on the success of the insurgence against Spain. He wanted to appease slaveholders and bring them over to the rebels side without forcing them to choose between slavery and independence. Although he eventually came to believe that slave abolition was crucial for independence, conservative forces (particularly landowners) within the insurgency disagreed and this came to be a particularly divisive issue among rebels. Dominican-born Mximo Gà ³mez, who had become the leader of the rebel army in 1870, realized in late 1871 that in order to win the war, the rebels would have to invade western Cuba, the richest part of the island, where the largest sugar mills and majority of slaves were concentrated. Just as Abraham Lincoln eventually understood that freeing U.S. slaves via the Emancipation Proclamation was the only way to disrupt the Confederacys economy by depriving it of its labor force, Gà ³mez recognized the need to induce slaves to join the rebels struggle. It took three more years for Gà ³mez to convince Cà ©spedes and the rebel government to take the war to western Cuba with Maceo as a key leader. However, conservative elements spread slander about Maceo, stating that his tactic of freeing slaves would result in another Haitian Revolution, where black people would take over the island and kill white landowners. Thus, when Gà ³mez and Maceo arrived in the central province of Las Villas, the soldiers there refused to accept Maceos orders and he was called back to eastern Cuba. The rebel government ended up going back on the agreement to invade the west. By 1875, the rebel army controlled the eastern half of the island, but dissension within the rebel government continued, as did racist rumors about Maceo favoring black soldiers over white ones and wanting to form a black republic. In 1876 he wrote a letter rebutting these rumors: Neither now nor at any time am I to be regarded as an advocate of a Negro Republic or anything of that sort...I do not recognize any hierarchy. In 1877 a new Spanish commander entered the war. He went on the offensive against the rebel army, sowing dissension in the ranks and reinforcing racist lies about Maceo. In addition, Maceo was seriously wounded. In 1878, the president of the rebel republic, Toms Palma Estrada, was captured by Spanish troops. Finally, on February 11, 1878, the Treaty of Zanjà ³n was signed between the rebel government and the Spanish. Slaves who were freed during the war were allowed to maintain their freedom, but slavery was not abolished and Cuba continued to be under Spanish rule. The Baragu Protest and Guerra Chiquita (1878-1880) In March 1878, Maceo and a group of rebel leaders officially protested the treaty in Baragu and refused to sign it, even though he had been offered a large sum of money to accept it. He then left Cuba for Jamaica and eventually New York. General Calixto Garcà a, meanwhile, continued to encourage Cubans to take up arms against the Spanish. Maceo and Garcà a met in Kingston, Jamaica, in August 1879 to plan the next uprising, La Guerra Chiquita (The Little War). Maceo was in exile and did not participate in La Guerra Chiquita, which was led by Garcà a, Maceos brother Josà ©, and Guillermà ³n Moncada. Maceo survived various assassination attempts by the Spanish while in exile. The rebel army was ill-prepared for another war and Garcà a was captured in August 1880 and sent to prison in Spain. The Interwar Years Maceo resided in Honduras between 1881 and 1883, during which time he began to correspond with Josà © Martà , who had been in exile since 1871. Maceo moved to the U.S. in 1884 to join the new independence movement and, along with Gà ³mez, secure financial support for a new uprising. Gà ³mez and Maceo wanted to attempt a new invasion of Cuba right away, while Martà argued that they needed more preparation. Maceo returned to Cuba for much of 1890, but was forced to go into exile again. In 1892 he returned to New York and learned of Martà s new Cuban Revolutionary Party. Martà viewed Maceo as indispensable for the next revolutionary expedition to Cuba. The War of Independence (1895-1898) and Maceos death The War of Independence, the final struggle for Cuban independence, began on February 24, 1895 in eastern Cuba. Maceo and his brother Josà © returned to the island on March 30, with Martà and Gà ³mez following a few weeks later. Martà was killed in his first battle on May 19. Understanding that a failure to invade western Cuba was the cause of defeat in the Ten Years War, Gà ³mez and Maceo made this a priority, and began the campaign in October. As he moved westward, Maceo gained the respect and admiration of both black and white rebels. Although western Cuba had supported Spain during the Ten Years’ War, the rebels were finally successful in invading Havana and the westernmost province of Pinar del Rà o in January 1896. Spain sent General Valeriano Weyler (nicknamed the Butcher) to take over the Spanish forces, and his primary goal was to destroy Maceo. Although Maceo won several victories over the course of the year, he was killed in battle on December 6, 1896 in Punta Brava, near Havana. Legacy Gà ³mez and Calixto Garcà a continued fighting successfully, largely due to Gà ³mezs strategy of torching sugar mills and disrupting the colonial economy. Although it was ultimately the sinking of the USS Maine in February 1898 and the consequent intervention of the U.S. and Spanish-American War that led to Spains defeat, Cubans had all but achieved independence by then, largely because of the skill, leadership, and courage of Antonio Maceo. No independence leader was more committed to the abolition of slavery than Maceo, nor was any other leader as reviled by Spanish forces and targeted by their racist propaganda. Maceo understood that Cuban independence would mean nothing if his Afro-Cuban compatriots remained enslaved. Sources Foner, Philip. The WBS 2 module Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

The WBS 2 module - Essay Example However, there were difficulties during the report-writing stage, especially when it came to choosing the scenario that would be discussed, all the while ensuring that the report was objective. In addition, accessing relevant journals and texts was difficult, especially when multiple sources were involved. The peer assessment feedback was a big help since it enabled the group and I to identify areas, which we needed to improve on. When I had to work on my portfolios by myself, I also faced various challenges, including time management. Moreover, while some of the instructions seemed straight-forward in the beginning, I realized that my tutor meant to improve my research ability, as well as ensure that I had an adequate objectivity level as opined by Hill. The tutor made it clear that any arguments used would have to be supported by valid references and/or explanations, which meant that I had to correct some of my text until I presented satisfactory work. Indeed, I am confident that I satisfied my module tutor’s requirements. It was challenging for me work independently, especially since the research in application of work based structure was very extensive, while, as stated, most of the sources accessed proved to be irrelevant to the portfolios. However, if I could do it again, I would seek to access my module tutor more when I came across issues that my classmates could not solve, as well. Time management is crucial in managing work based structures although I feel that was not my strongest point.

Applying the Principles of Instructional Design in E-Learning Research Paper

Applying the Principles of Instructional Design in E-Learning - Research Paper Example Naidu (2006) defines e-learning as â€Å"the intentional use of networked information and communications technology in teaching and learning† (p. 1). E means electronic that signifies the use of the internet in educating students. Furthermore, learning is an act of acquiring knowledge through reading, studying, and applying the skills to measure a person’s understanding of the subject. However, the learning process is rooted on the experiences of students when they use technology. These experiences, whether positive or negative, affect their cognitive understanding of the lessons. Negative experiences develop apprehension in utilizing e-learning, so it is the duty of instructional designer to motivate these students. This paper aims to develop a storyline that will be the basis in applying the principles of instructional design. Storyline The educational system has changed the process of learning through the use of the internet. E-learning has been promoted because it i s more effective in incorporating knowledge on students than ordinary classroom instructions. The students utilize e-mail as a method of communicating with their professor. E-mail contains the link to the instructional materials provided by the professor, which informs students to study. Online learning also includes reviews, tests, and assignments. Students allot time for the application of their learning and professor encourages them to meet the deadline. This method is advantageous to students because they could access their study materials anywhere provided that there is an internet connection. Students living in a rural area are provided with broadband due to the difficulty in accessing their instructional materials. The common trend is that students have their own personal computers at home, while other students rent at the internet cafes. Flexibility is the main characteristic of utilizing information and technology; thus, students can study the course materials depending on their convenient time and place. It is expected that students will get high scores, but during the checking of assignments and tests, the teacher noticed that other students have low scores and only few got an average score. The teacher marvels at the poor performance of students because this reflects to the professor’s method of teaching. Thus, the professor began to study the problems of students in coping with the new method of learning. The teacher wants to find out the problem in his teaching method and begins to investigate on the negative experience that the students encountered. The questionnaires were sent via e-mail that contains the feedback and comments of students. Upon receiving the comments, the instructor discovers that the problems are focused on the instructional materials and the technical aspect. For the instructional materials, the students comment that the learning process was very boring or the materials are not interesting. Due to the monotonous feelin g of students, they never bothered to understand the concept in the text. The result is poor performance or low scores in their assignments and tests. Another comment received by the professor is the limited value of online information. The students complained that the materials are not new, which discourage them to study seriously. The professor wonders because this is in contrast with the study of Merrill (2002) that one of the principles of instruction pertains to the â€Å"
